Executive Director
The Climate Registry
Though his early career as a touring and recording musician took him away from direct engagement with environmental issues and into the music industry, David has always looked to merge his interest in the environment with his experience in the music and high-tech industries.

Having founded both Inkblotmagazine and Musicfans, Inc., and having acted as CEO of JamBase, David has leveraged his connections with the music industry to gather support for environmental issues. For example, during the push to pass federal climate legislation, he worked with musicians to support the NRDC Action Fund by giving away free live music tracks to people who signed a support letter.

Now, in his role as Executive Director at The Climate Registry, David is responsible for providing the strategic direction for The Registry and oversees its program, services and staff. He acts as chief liaison with the state and provincial Board members and leads an annual delegation of high ranking sub-national officials to the annual UN climate talks.

David is a proven senior executive with experience as COO, CEO and Director on several corporate and non-profit boards. In his previous position, David oversaw U.S. business development for Offsetters, a leading carbon management organization. Prior to that, David was an entrepreneur in the high tech sector, founding and/or leading innovative internet start-ups.

Though joining E2 in 2008 solely to stay educated about the issues, he has become involved in many of E2’s most important projects, especially in California, working to defeat Prop. 23 (The so-called “dirty energy proposition”) and pass a stronger Renewable Portfolio Standard in California. He has participated in several E2 advocacy trips at both the Federal and State level. “E2 provided a really good training mechanism for advancing my knowledge and voice. It is amazing to go from 0 to 60 and get the kind of access to congressmen and generals that E2 has.” David also serves as co-director of the Northern California chapter of E2.

David’s strongest interests are in climate, energy and water. He sees the transparent use of data as well as the development of a cleantech economy as paramount to developing the economy. “I’ve lived a career in high-tech, and the concentration of capital in Silicon Valley for high-tech completely dwarfed everywhere else. You can see the positive results. I want to make sure that happens to the U.S. with the next major tech trend: cleantech.
